Mrs. Forbes' Math Overview
We will implement Trailblazers, the math curriculum adopted by USD 495. This math curriculum is aligned with the Kansas Common Core State Standards, and will ensure that all kindergartners have an opportunity to engage in hands-on math. Students will learn with manipulatives, such as counting cubes, sorting cards, tangible shapes, linking chains, etc. Students will learn to count sets of objects, identify and name two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, sort by attributes, etc. They will read and write numbers, and be able to group objects by a given number. They will be fluent in counting up to 100 by ones, as well as by twos, fives, and tens. Students will be able to add and subtract within five and ten, as well as be able to solve story problems. We will use various strategies, including Greg Tang math, which support and supplement the Trailblazers curriculum. Kindergartners in our room rise to high expectations, and have a great time doing so!
